I started collecting typewriters in 2006, but what started it all was using my mother's Brother Student-Riter XL1 in 2004. The next year I received my grandma's Smith-Corona Silent, which was enough to hold me over for a little while but eventually led to an obsession with manual portable typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Noiseless 8 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Noiseless 8 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
