Description:
The end of an era going back to 1908 with the visible No. 10, for in 1939 Remington comes out with the radically new No. 17. By 1938 the carriage shifters had run their course if Remington wanted to remain competitive and keep up with Royal. It is interesting that the SN data shows they continued to manufacture 16s, but in much smaller numbers alongside the new model. . What was behind this idea?
The No. 30 is a No. 16 with a 10 key decimal tabulator and available in platen sizes from 10 1/2 to 24 1/2. This one has a 13 1/2 setup..
I typically try and save a nice dealer tag, but Louis G. Plummer used a file folder label for his and they weren't holding up too well. The one placed above the tab indicators had to go. Wouldn't you know they had some seriously strong adhesive. I resorted to a heat gun and wood scraper made from half a close pin. Louise thought typewriters had "personalities." At the time of the article he is doing fleet service for 3,000 Boeing machines!

As with many, the bug is back there somewhere due to an Underwood No. 5. My grandparents had a No 5. My parents had a yellow Royal Safari that I used to index card everything, including a beer can collection. Collection syndrome clue! A casual interest in typewriters started with a garage sale 3 bank simply because it said Underwood on it. Typewriters were found here and there , but I wasn't actively looking for them. The long dormant collecting tic was activated when my neighbors left a Remington Quiet Riter on the curb when they moved.
Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 30 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 30 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
