1937 Royal De Luxe Serial # A-708277 1937 Royal De Luxe typewriter, Serial # A-708277 Taylor Harbin's 1937 Royal De Luxe typewriter. 2018-09-11 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Taylor Harbin: 1937 Royal De Luxe Serial # A-708277 A rather uncommon machine, it took me awhile before I found one within my price range. Had it shipped from Jefferson City. It hadn't been used in decades, so some oil was needed to get the bell trip to work, among other minor things.

The only key that doesn't work well is the backspace. It gets caught on something and then slips out of place, so I can only use it about half the time. Not sure what the deal is, but it types like a dream!

The only annoying feature is the complex ribbon mechanism. Putting a new one on is a real pain. Lots of slots and over-and-under stuff. Your fingers WILL get dirty. On top of that, when using the black setting, capitol letters won't print all the way if you type too fast. This might be an inherent flaw in the carriage shift mechanism.

However, the carriage shift isn't bad on the pinky fingers. I really like the small Pica font. It'll be a working machine for me!

I am a professional historian and writer. I have been collecting typewriters since 2013, and use them for all of my work (novels, short stories, poetry, non-fiction, and personal letters). I have a passion for all things antique, but hold a special place for these tools. Some of my collection is up for sale or trade, so if you see something you want, let me know!
