Description:
I found this 1936 Continental Standard typewriter in Toms River, New Jersey, in September 2018. The seller insisted that it could ONLY type in German, and held firm to this conviction even despite my best explanations. At any rate, it looks that it was originally purchased in Berlin, though how it got to the United States is something of a mystery. My hunch is that it was likely a war trophy for GIs returning from World War II.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Continental Standard on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Continental Serial Number page and the Continental Standard By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
