1935 Continental Standard Serial # 549562-1 1935 Continental Standard typewriter, Serial # 549562-1 Mark Schrad's 1935 Continental Standard typewriter. 2024-07-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Schrad: 1935 Continental Standard Serial # 549562-1 I purchased this Continental Standard in April, 2024 from a seller in Brookhaven, PA. Unlike most Continental Standards that make their way to the US as war trophies, this one was a bit unusual. It was originally sold in Zittau, which is now at the border between Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. It belonged to the seller's grandmother-in-law, who ran a textile factory. She fled to Pennsylvania when the Nazis took over the factory, and used it to manufacture uniforms for the German war effort. After the war was over, however, she returned to Germany, and brought back to the United States many different items, which included this typewriter from the factory.
