1931 Remington Portable 5 Serial # V381480 1931 Remington Portable 5 typewriter, Serial # V381480 Brian Brumfield's 1931 Remington Portable 5 typewriter. 2015-01-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Brian Brumfield: 1931 Remington Portable 5 Serial # V381480 A Frankenmachine - a green & black model 3 w/ tab, with a Model 5 paper table.

Purchased from Gabe B.

Needs a platen knob and correct paper table.

[update]
I did some superficial cleaning and dry-lube on this baby, and once the accumulated dirt was removed, it perked right up. If it had a decent ribbon on it, there would be a type sample here.

I also transplanted a knob from a basket case Monarch - but it's not the right style knob. I am still on the lookout.

I need the correct Model 3 (green) paper table for this typer and a case/bottom for it - it will not type stand-alone due to the lack of clearance underneath. Not designed to sit flush w/o feet.

I am delighted to add this green machine to my growing list of Remington portables.

I love machines, machining, creating things from nothing. Typewriters have struck a romantic chord in me, thanks to my oldest son, and I am working with him and the rest of our family to acquire, restore, repair many machines.
Our collection grows in fits and spurts - as the seasons change. We make a lot of acquisitions at estate sales, yard and garage sales, thrift stores, online, and through personal connections.
The machines that we don't want to keep in our own collection, we are selling through various outlets - Etsy, Square Market, and eventually on eBay - and unlike some sellers, we KNOW how to pack a machine for shipment! :-)
Brumfield & Sons Typewriters, at your service.
