1929 Torpedo 6 Serial # 129497 1929 Torpedo 6 typewriter, Serial # 129497 Hubertus Schott's 1929 Torpedo 6 typewriter. 2018-02-12 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Hubertus Schott: 1929 Torpedo 6 Serial # 129497 The first German typewriter with segment shift. Huge machine in a good condition, except the hard platen and the crumbled and angled feed rollers. This is why it doesn't transport the paper properly.

What I like about this machine is how easy it is to remove the carriage, the platen and other parts. The bearings are great and the mechanics are made for eternity. This one was produced by Weilwerke before the acquisition by Remington in 1931.

Actually working with computers in my professional life I take the old mechanics as a compensation. I prefer machines manufactured before WWII, but I don't despise beautiful and good working typewriters from the fifties and sixties like e.g. the Olympia Splendid.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Torpedo 6 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Torpedo Serial Number page and the Torpedo 6 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
