Description:
This is a truly remarkable 1925 Underwood 5 with Russian keyset. I love these snapshots of the different Russian keyboards at different times during the orthographic reforms of the 1910s and '20s, leaving 1 keys and punctuation keys in the middle of the keyboard. This one was in decent shape thanks to its original lid and base, and was stored for many years at the apartment of Peter and Tikva Tytell on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, where I got it in October of 2024. After quite a bit of cleaning and polishing, it shines-up like a gem!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
