Description:
I bought this as a parts machine, and I've done nothing to it. I'm hoping to get at the escapement to revive my Underwood 3-12" at some point.
Update. After a whole lot of cleaning, it types! Like all Underwood 5's, it is a pleasure to type on, and it has cleaned up real nice. Now, the dilemma, do I tear it down for my other Underwood, or do I just let it stand, and keep looking for a dog-tooth spring for the escapement on my older one?

I have been collecting typewriters all my life, starting with a 1980's Brother Charger 11 (which I no longer have, but have replaced with an identical machine). I have well over 60 typewriters now, with a few rare portables. Some are interesting or odd, but most of mine are common machines.
My wife and I have made a deal, that I can keep buying typewriters if she can keep buying shoes. Fair enough! *shrugs*
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 5 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 5 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
