Description:
February 1922 seems to be the last month that the Remington Portable [#1] was offered as a one-shift typewriter, though advertisements suggest the single-shift version was offered even years afterwards; however, I've never seen such a machine.
This one is busted and it is missing a key and even a type slug. It does have an empty slot for the right-shift key. Though a revolutionary machine, the one-shift version could not have pleased all consumers.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington Portable on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington Portable By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
