Description:
Occasionally, when casually shopping for something, it essentially falls in your lap when you weren't expecting to.
While looking for Oliver 5s and 9s for potential restoration, finding most of them incomplete, rusty, or wildly overpriced, I wound up picking this one up from a fellow enthusiast at a local type-in.
This Oliver has a sanded platen, and was apparently brought back to working order by a local shop around 10 years ago.
While I'll never use it as a daily machine, everything functions as it should, despite some of the character spacing being slightly wonky, as shown in the type sample.
I also acquired the case lid, with plans to fabricate a replacement wooden base as after 100+ years it disintegrated, as well as a reproduction pack of pencils.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Oliver 9 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Oliver Serial Number page and the Oliver 9 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
