1919 Hammond Multiplex Serial # AL203438 1919 Hammond Multiplex typewriter, Serial # AL203438 Nick White's 1919 Hammond Multiplex typewriter. 2024-01-25 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Nick White: 1919 Hammond Multiplex Serial # AL203438 Received this beauty in already great shape, but needing TLC to type well. Disassembled, cleaned, polished and waxed. One roller has new rubber. Adjusting to get the paper to roll down perfectly took ages. The case was also cleaned and polished (with shoe polish). Originally came with miniature Roman and chemistry shuttles. Works very well now, and types 85 words per minute. I’ve also made a YouTube video about this machine.

Notice one ribbon spool appears to have black paint underneath the green. I’m on the side of these being government issue-but not necessarily military or relation to WWI. I’ve found one on Worthpoint where the seller says it was their dads, and he was a government civil engineer. I’d love to discuss in the comments.

I am a collector from Chicago, IL. I’m a classical and 1920s jazz musician. I’m known for being in a scene from Killers of the Flower Moon, in which I actually used my Underwood portable in a closeup. My first typewriter was a Remington quiet writer that I alley picked from my neighbors trash bins. Fell in love instantly.
