1917 Oliver 9 Serial # 662308 1917 Oliver 9 typewriter, Serial # 662308 John Abbott's 1917 Oliver 9 typewriter. 2020-02-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of John Abbott: 1917 Oliver 9 Serial # 662308 1091. This Oliver 9 is in pretty good shape mechanically. The typebars had been bent from an impact or improper storage at some point or during shipping. It is subtle enough I cannot tell from the sellers pictures whether or not they were bent prior to selling them. Took me about 20 minutes to get them into working order, but I will need to spend some more time getting them aligned. This is my 7th Oliver in my collection. I should have a couple ready to sell in the next few weeks.

I started my collection back in 2017 when I found a 1993 Brother WP-1250, which was very close to the typewriter I owned and used to write letters home while I was stationed in Korea serving in the US Air Force (I later discovered it was most likely the Brother WP-1150, so I picked that up). In 2018, my wife took me to one of the local antique store and I saw an old typewriter that caught my eye. My wife purchased it for me for Christmas (a 1932 Royal 10). My wife and I decided to limit my collection to 5 typewriters, so I need to sell off my surplus.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Oliver 9 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Oliver Serial Number page and the Oliver 9 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
