Description:
No typewriters were harmed in the making of these pics! =) This 1915 Underwood 4 was thrown in for free as part of a bulk deal with a keychopper in September 2021. I took it, but not willingly, as it was a rustbucket destined to be a parts machine. So, with a nor'easter steaming through, I had some fun with it as a snow gauge. The benefit of 7-degree weather is that the snow was never close to melting, and blew out of the machine easily. In fact, it seems to be in much better shape after the snow-cleaning than before! [EDIT: In February, 2023, I finally got around to rehabilitating the Underwood, which included a lot of cleaning, scouring, and removing the 70ish-year-old hornet's nest from the inner workings next to the ribbon-select mechanism.]

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 4 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 4 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
