Description:
Local estate find in Orléans, Ontario, Canada. I received it as a retirement gift from my team.
As bought, it was dirty and gummy. After cleaning and oiling the tab mechanism, it is working well. Had to form the paper release lever that was bent and could not be locked. The paper table was crooked a bit.
Made in Ilion, N.Y., USA. This is a rare keyboard, with French diacritical signs (é, ç, ^, and `) on keys where they are not usually located for a bilingual keyboard in Canada. I assume this predates the adoption of the standard for the Canadian French keyboard configuration.
The typeface is 10 tpi in a style that is more curvy than the regular Pica. Note that the typeface specimen sample was made using a cotton ribbon that was already on the machine when bought. With a new ribbon, it would be much darker.

Bonjour! I am from the region of Montreal, Quebec and moved to Ottawa, Ontario in 1992.
Amateur watchmaker and machinist, I love anything mechanical, hydraulic or electric. I have restored American and Canadian clocks and small lathes, milling machines and a jig bore.
Most of my typewriters have French Canadian QWERTY keyboards, with some exception for rare finds.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Remington 10 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Remington Serial Number page and the Remington 10 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
