1913 Royal 5 Serial # 154919-5 1913 Royal 5 typewriter, Serial # 154919-5 Erik Bruchez's 1913 Royal 5 typewriter. 2018-09-25 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Erik Bruchez: 1913 Royal 5 Serial # 154919-5 I got this machine at an estate sale. It is very similar to the other Royal 5 flatbed I have and which I am very slowly restoring. For some reason, I just love the flatbeds!

This one is in pretty good shape, except that all the front, back and side decals and pinstripes are gone! I can tell that they used to be there. Somebody must have just cleaned them off entirely! This is an ideal machine to receive brand new decals, except for the paper table decal which looks really good still.

On the plus side, this machine has really nice ribbon spools.

Pictures are before any cleaning whatsoever.

I started collecting my first pre-WW2 standard typewriters in 2017. Since then I have added a few machines to my collection, which now ranges from the 1880s to the 1980s. As of 2024, I have more big standard (desktop) typewriters than portables, a few standard electrics, and some unusual machines like Varitypers, uncommon IBM machines, and more. I am not a pro restorer, but I have restored a few of my machines beyond simple cleaning.
