Description:
Got this Ideal A4 from 1912 (serial number 95096) at the end of summer (29th August 2020). It was in a bad shape aesthetically and had a lot of rust on the cast body and its chrome parts but the mechanics worked fine. I cleaned it properly, de-rusted it and now it doesn't only work but also looks quite nice I think. It won't become a regular typewriter but I really like the mechanics and the carriage return lever just above the keys and not at the carriage itself. Nice idea.

I'm a typewriter collector from Germany and interested in various kinds of brands and types from pre- and post-WW2, particularly focusing on Seidel & Naumann (Ideal & Erika), Triumph-Adler and Smith-Corona (my favourite brand!), although I own some other brands and am looking at some others (Underwood, Remington). I particularly like portables, my favourite pre-WW2 typewriter being the Erika 5 and my favourite post-WW2 typewriter being my Smith-Corona Silent-Super.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Ideal A4 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Ideal Serial Number page and the Ideal A4 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
