Description:
I was fortunate to find this French Canadian Royal model 1 on FaceBook marketplace in Montreal, and had a friend rush out with the cash in hand to purchase it and hold it for me until I could visit to pick it up. When I got it home, it was very dirty, but it has cleaned up quite well. I'm not sure if I'll re-decal the machine or leave it as is. I can only see the outlines of many of the original decals. It also needs a couple of parts to be able to advance the rock-hard platen (new rubber all around, and perhaps some new springs) ... but it types. And it is the only French-Canadian Royal 1 I have ever seen.
It has a second serial number under the left cover plate, stamped into the frame. s/n 38703
UPDATE!
I'm so happy to add photos of the results of a good cleaning. It turns out that there was a thin layer of old paint over the original decals. I'm so glad I was patient with this machine!
Now for a part to get the carriage return mechanism to work, and it will be fully restored :D

I have been collecting typewriters all my life, starting with a 1980's Brother Charger 11 (which I no longer have, but have replaced with an identical machine). I have well over 60 typewriters now, with a few rare portables. Some are interesting or odd, but most of mine are common machines.
My wife and I have made a deal, that I can keep buying typewriters if she can keep buying shoes. Fair enough! *shrugs*
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Royal 1 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Royal Serial Number page and the Royal 1 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
