Description:
Purchased locally.
Hammond #2 Universal. No front plate installed, no sign of one ever being installed.
Torn apart, was fully degreased, cleaned, and polished. Rollers were sent out to be resurfaced (JJ Shorts said the first Hammond rollers ever!). Note: If you plan on getting new rollers, the entire carriage must be taken apart.
This Hammond has:
New rollers
New ribbon
New feet
New felt on base
New type shuttle guard
New impression strip
Types well. Fully adjusted and tuned (Not much work had to be done). You really need to clean and polish a Hammond to really appreciate it. Super simple and genius design... Except for the carriage and mainspring. Should have a drawband.
(I cannot seem to date this Hammond. The serial number goes past the last date listed of 1908. 1912? Not sure.)

Typewriter collector with deep hatred for grime, usually meaning any new acquisition results in being torn apart by the next day to be cleaned and put back together.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hammond 2 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hammond Serial Number page and the Hammond 2 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
