1906 Hammond 12 Serial # 96617 1906 Hammond 12 typewriter, Serial # 96617 Daniel Burgoyne's 1906 Hammond 12 typewriter. 2024-09-17 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Daniel Burgoyne: 1906 Hammond 12 Serial # 96617 Wade Staddon (from Montréal) bought it in Trois-Rivières, Québec, and sold it to me. Some papers that came with the typewriter indicate it might have been owned by Mr. Eugène Petitclerc, General Manager at La Caisse d'Économie Desjardins des Trois-Rivières.

This machine has a Universal French-English keyboard with the necessary diacritical signs on lowercase letters for typing in French.

A proper-sized 7/16" ribbon in blue and red was wound on the original spools. It also came with a shuttle #32 Medium Roman with French diacritics.

It is currently not in working order, due to a broken pawl on the escapement wheel. Will endeavour to have it fixed.

Bonjour! I am from the region of Montreal, Quebec and moved to Ottawa, Ontario in 1992.

Amateur watchmaker and machinist, I love anything mechanical, hydraulic or electric. I have restored American and Canadian clocks and small lathes, milling machines and a jig bore.

Most of my typewriters have French Canadian QWERTY keyboards, with some exception for rare finds.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hammond 12 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hammond Serial Number page and the Hammond 12 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
