1905 Yost 10 Serial # 97225 1905 Yost 10 typewriter, Serial # 97225 Mark Schrad's 1905 Yost 10 typewriter. 2022-03-28 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Schrad: 1905 Yost 10 Serial # 97225 This one came to me courtesy of Jacques Perrier at the Musée de la machine à écrire in Lausanne, Switzerland, in October 2021. The “ç” and “ij” keys suggest this American-made machine was originally sold in the Netherlands. (As a double-keyboard model with extra keys, most 10s seem to have been destined for European markets.)

When I got it, it wasn’t functional and needed a lot of work, tinkering and tune-ups. Missing 2 rubber feet, so I crafted a set of 4 new ones; missing a side panel and paper table, so I built those, too. (Waiting on a reproduction decal before finishing the pinstriping and paper table.) Needs a replacement bell, and I’ll make one replacement keytop out of wood—but the rest of the keytops are all celluloid and there’s very little that can be done to arrest their decomposition. At 121 years old, they’re actually not that bad.
