Description:
This is a gorgeous (and early!) 1905 Underwood 4, from the Bob Aubert collection of Delran, NJ. According to Bob's hand-written notes, this machine he purchased from the original owner--one Mrs. Peterson of 2804 Jomat Avenue in Carney, Maryland (Baltimore suburbs) in March of 1968. Mrs. Peterson apparently got it new--with wooden base and lid--new as a present for graduating from high school back in about 1905-06 or so. Quite a life this gorgeous machine has led!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Underwood 4 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Underwood Serial Number page and the Underwood 4 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
