Description:
A venerable Yost 4 in deplorable condition, but even in such bad shape everything still moves, the carriage comes and goes and there's still a small spark of life. This is all I need.
There's a missing chunk of metal at the back, the serial number dissapeared eons ago, the bright chromed parts are unrecognizable, several keytops marched away... But if I press a key the typeslug goes towards the platen and the carriage advances. I salute you, Yost 4. This machine must be one of the toughest beasts I've ever seen, and it's my first 19th century typewriter. I'll try to clean it as much as possible without dismantling it, I don't want to blunder this living fossil into oblivion thanks to my clumsiness.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.
A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Yost 4 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Yost Serial Number page and the Yost 4 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
