Description:
Keystone No.1 Typewriter. Made by the Keystone Typewriter Company of Harrisburg, PA during the latter part of the 19th century. These are handsome typewriters but construction of the No.1 model was sub-par. That's because the carriage was made of pig iron, a cheap metal that does not survive well and tends to crumble and warp over time.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Keystone 1 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Keystone Serial Number page and the Keystone 1 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
