Description:
This 1892 Caligraph 2--with case--came from southern upstate New York. In 2018, I agreed to purchase it, but the distances involved were too great, so in late 2019 the owner left it with a typewriter-collecting friend of mine near West Chester, PA when I was out of town for Herman Price's typewriter gathering. I picked it up on the way home. Cosmetically, the machine was fantastic, but upon closer inspection, a few of the balsa wood key levers had been broken (I suspect in the same incident that punched a hole through the lid). It took quite a while to get it pulled apart and repaired. I created thin shims out of aluminum flashing to reinforce the broken pieces, which are clearly visible from the bottom of the machine.
