Description:
The Perfected 4 and the Perfected 2 Type-Writers were the first typewriters that Remington made after the famous Sholes and Glidden typewriter (Remington 1) of 1874. Like the model 1, the Perfected 4 has a large platen and only types in capitals. The early Perfected 4s like this one, have no markings indicating the model number or manufacturer.
The Perfected 4 was used by telegraph operators, 'business houses for billing' and 'general correspondence'.

I am a collector of 19th century typewriters and have built a collection that shows the remarkable ingenuity and beauty of the world's first typewriters. I have always been interested in the beginnings of a machine when there is an eruption of approaches to making it. Early typewriters are an exceptional example of this incubation period.
