1955 Smith Corona Skyriter Serial # 2Y 251342 1955 Smith Corona Skyriter typewriter, Serial # 2Y 251342 Jonathan Sprung's 1955 Smith Corona Skyriter typewriter. 2023-12-05 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Jonathan Sprung: 1955 Smith Corona Skyriter Serial # 2Y 251342 I just bought this from FB marketplace last week, and it was a good drive away. It looked good in the photo, but on the way home we had to pull over to put it in the back of the pickup because it smelled so badly of cat pee and mildew. It took a really good cleaning and soaking before I could put it back together, but I'm so glad I did. For an ultra-portable it types like a dream. Very nice machine. And now it doesn't stink.

Update: I have painted this machine red, and it is such a great typer, I have it in my rotation for letters and short stories.

I have been collecting typewriters all my life, starting with a 1980's Brother Charger 11 (which I no longer have, but have replaced with an identical machine). I have well over 60 typewriters now, with a few rare portables. Some are interesting or odd, but most of mine are common machines.

My wife and I have made a deal, that I can keep buying typewriters if she can keep buying shoes. Fair enough! *shrugs*
