The Typewriter Database 1971 Montgomery Ward Signature 511D Serial # G1494669 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Ted Munk: 1971 Montgomery Ward Signature 511D Serial # G1494669 I fell in love with the Jetsons/Space 1999 styling of the 511D, and once I found out that it was the companion "Big Brother" to my 440Ts, I had to have one.

Despite being damaged in shipping (pretty badly), the machine survived in typable shape, and is pleasant to use, if somewhat acoustically challenged (it's quieter with the shell off than it is with the shell on). It's well built and engineered, and I'd rate it about equal to the comparable Olympia SM9. It's got a "no expense spared" design, and even damaged, is nice to use, and prints clearly.

I really would like to find a "Dial-A-Type" set for it. (:
