The Monarch is a machine that is easy to overlook. The compelling elements of its design aren't immediately obvious, and its not until a closer inspection of the typewriter that its clean, modern (for the times) lines can be fully appreciated.

Of greater importance is how solid the machine is. Its case is made of a heavier gauge metal, and its mechanics feel so tough that the Monarch feels like it could perform double duty as a jackhammer.

Overall an impressive portable that is well-suited to serious typists.

NOTE: The database shows the prefix "MY" for this model, yet this machine clearly has a serial number starting with "NY".
