191X Hammond Multiplex Serial # 151454 191X Hammond Multiplex typewriter, Serial # 151454 Mark Schrad's 191X Hammond Multiplex typewriter. 2023-04-08 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Mark Schrad: 191X Hammond Multiplex Serial # 151454 Nothing quite like a Hammond....that works! I know there are so many permutations among and between Hammond models that each machine seems virtually unique. This one, for instance, is I believe the only Multiplex here on the database with black keys, rather than glass ones. Anyway, I got this from a seller in York, PA in April, 2023, with pictures on the way home in Columbia, PA on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Overall, it took some work to get it fixed up and functional again. Most notable was the platen, which looks to have long ago cracked, but then was filled, cracked again, and then fused to the feed roller and had to be chiseled apart. But since it isn't exactly a platen, even with the roached-out and flattened rubber, it still works reasonably well!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Hammond Multiplex on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Hammond Serial Number page and the Hammond Multiplex By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
