Serial Number Table Last Edited: 08/24/22 07:27
NOTE: dates shown are JAN 1 unless noted, so the serial number shown is the *first* serial number produced the given year. Exceptions are serial numbers preceded by "up to"(where you can assume that the numbers reported in that subsection are DECEMBER 31, END OF YEAR NUMBERS) or rows where a month is given in the month column. If the serial number is shown as a range (xxxx-xxxx) it indicates that we know the entire range of serial numbers for the given year.

1923-1965 The printing machinery company Nakajima Seisakausho was established by Nobuyoshi Nakajima in 1923 and was located at Azabu, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The company merged with the sewing machine company All Lead Mishin Seisakusho in 1933.

ALL Typewriters Nakajima serial numbers are datecoded so that the first numerical digit in the serial number is the last digit of the manufacture year.
On Electronic Typewriters the second alphanumeric digit is the Month Code, which is (1-9+X,Y,Z) where January=1 through September=9, and October=X, November=Y, December=Z. To determine the decade of manufacture, refer to the model list below to find what date range your model was produced.

1965 Nakajima All Mishin Seizosho began the production of portable manual typewriters in May, 1965. This small portable is similar in size and design to Brother's JP-1 series and to the soon-to-be-introduced Silver-Seiko 700 series. In fact, it looks so similar to the SS700 that the easiest way to tell them apart from a photo of each is to look at the margin set sliders behind the platen. On Nakajimas, the ends turn down, and on the SS700, the ends turn up. 128
  196x Known Models:
1971 The first electric typewriter, the M7500, was produced in May, 1971. The early 1970's also saw the introduction of the Model 8000 (800) series portable manual, similar in size and design to Brother's JP-7 series and Silver-Seiko's Model 800 series. This design is most often seen rebadged as the Olympia Carina through the 70's and 80's and was last manufactured in 2019 in China as the "Royal Classic". 128,175
  197x Known Models:
1976-1978 This was followed by further electric models (M7800, M8800) in 1976 and 1978 respectively.
In 1976 the company renamed itself as Nakajima All Precision Co., Ltd.
