Description:
OK, who can help me out here?
This machine with an AZERTY keyboard has a mechanism vaguely like a Royal portable, and an automatic margin system similar to the one on a Hermes 2000. The shell and ribbon cover are heavy, cast metal.
I know of one other such typewriter in a collector's hands, with a serial number just slightly after mine, labeled Avgvsta Monaco.
The Monac and Avgvsta Monaco names have also appeared on machines made by SIM, but this is either a different design from SIM or was made by a separate company.
I am guessing at a manufacture date in the early '50s.

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Monac Simplex on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Monac Serial Number page and the Monac Simplex By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
