19xx DM 3 Serial # 289435 19xx DM 3 typewriter, Serial # 289435 Saul Bryan's 19xx DM 3 typewriter. 2024-11-02 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Saul Bryan: 19xx DM 3 Serial # 289435 Purchased 2024-10 from Facebook marketplace in Sydney, Australia. The case was in very poor condition, with exposed wood and peeling material.

This model is not well documented here, so I thought I better make the effort to upload images of my one. It has three features I think are noteworthy as being cool --
1. The ribbon covers, which hold the ribbon in place when in the case, rotate to expose them (see pics).
2. The machine is held to the base by two clips at the front, which seem to be spring steel and are quite secure.
3. The typeslugs are pill-shaped rather than rectangular.

There are other things that are nice about this, including the decals. I think if I was a German engineer I would have been proud to use this machine. It is a very competent typer, other than having a rock hard platen. This makes most of the letters slightly faded in the top half, something that could probably be adjusted for but I'm going to leave it I think. I have to rewire my brain to use QWERTZ, as I am used to QWERTY - so I never quite get 100% comfortable with it.

I'm trying the technique of having a slightly zoomed out main picture so that the list view looks a bit better. I think it works ok.

I find the jutting out metal for the arm lever to go on an interesting feature of the left end cap. It is very solid.

The handle is not original, but is made from a leather belt. It works fine, but is just a fraction too long.

I added the arrow as it opens in a confusing direction. I do not have the key, but it is unlocked.
