Description:
Another relative who sent me a "typewriter" they didn't need. I gladly accepted (thank you!) and yet... I wrestle with whether to use it.
For starters, the design makes it very hard to see what you're actually typing in typing mode, which means you have to switch to line mode and rely on the tiny LCD display. So, you type out a line on the screen, hit enter, and it types (prints?) it for you.
If you have to rely on the screen to use it, does that make it a typewriter or a computer?

Spotted a Royal KMG at a thrift store one day and it became a surprising source of inspiration.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Display 800 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Display 800 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
