Description:
My first (and electric) typewriter. Purchased Jan 30, 2023 and picked up from a local electronics salvage business. Only had to be cleaned and the ink cartridge/correction tape replaced. Originally only came with a Prestige Pica daisy wheel but I eventually picked up a Rarotype Elite and Mini Gothic wheel as well. Fully functional including the IEEE 1284 (Centronics port). Tested successfully with Windows 98, Windows XP, Windows 10/11, OpenBSD 7.7 and Solaris 10 1/13.
Nicknamed "COMP" due to the model designation CMP and its computer-printer functionality.
Made in Japan. Estimated 1995 (serial decodes as August 1995 under the documented Nakajima electronic-typewriter serial system).

I work in IT and enjoy slamming the keys that go clickity-clack from time to time.
I enjoy repairing, maintaining, and cleaning typewriters.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Swintec 1186 CMP on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Swintec Serial Number page and the Swintec 1186 CMP By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
