1995 Sense C-105 Serial # HKAF500148 1995 Sense C-105 typewriter, Serial # HKAF500148 Kewin Sanfridsson's 1995 Sense C-105 typewriter. 2024-09-20 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Kewin Sanfridsson: 1995 Sense C-105 Serial # HKAF500148 [Introduction]
Here we got a electric typewriter made in Korea from the 90s if I were to guess. I am 100% sure it is a Nakajima rebranded but I don't know which one so if anybody recognize the model please feel free to leave a comment I am very interested. As I have mentioned in a earlier gallery Sense was a office was a office brand back in the 80-90s here in Sweden, but now adays they are more recognized for their grocery store office supplies or children art supplies.

[Design]
I find it kind of interesting every time I see new old stock or sealed electronics with white plastic casing which haven't yet started to turn yellow. It looks so fresh and new, the texture do also feel so nice but back to the C-105... It have this nice electric typewriter look which I do enjoy! I guess we could call it a rounded cube, sharp yet smooth. But I cannot shake of the feeling of it being a bit lackluster or dull as there are no physical buttons or switches to mess around with for the settings as they are all integrated into key combos (CODE + a key). The paper rest if you could call it that lacks some height because the paper keeps falling over on itself until you're almost a half page down into the machine with the paper. But the viewing angle at which to scan over what you have written so far in quite comfortable. Though I feel inserting the paper could have been handled a bit better because the paper really want to get unleveled. I also miss having a platen knob on both sides, I like having the option of which hand to use when inserting the paper. It got a compartment in the back to house the built in power cable which is very useful! But I would rather have a standalone power cable instead to have the option to quickly switch out the power cable for a new one instead of having to pick apart the typewriter to change it if it would to get damaged.

[Features]
- Linespacing: 1, 1½ and 2.
- Pitch: 10, 12 and 15.
- Bold, Underlining with and without space between letters.
- Delete the last letter or word.
- Half Backspace, nice!
- Scrolling page up/down either 1 or ½ line at a time.
- Return back to beginning of line or last word written.
- Auto Return.
- Auto Center.
- Margin Release and Margin Shifter.

[Untested Features]
These are features I do not know of yet what they do as I don't own the manual nor know the original model of machine from Nakajima. I also forgot to test these features before I packed it back into the box again...
- DEC (Decimal Tabulator? Indentation?)
- IMP
- RMF (Right Margin Flush as Brother?)
- JUST
- SETTING

[Typing Experience]
The keyboard on the C-105 feels more mushy to write on compared to other electric typewriters that use rubber dome keyboards in my collection like Brother and Facit machines (and they are noticeably used!). The whole machine overall feels a tad stiff but that's probably from being stored away almost completely since it's production. I give it a pass because I am guessing it was a budget typewriter when it was sold back in the day.

I hope this was interesting, have a nice day!
Cheers!

Hi my name is Kewin and I'm a 24 years old from Sweden. I have a few hobbies like drawing and playing guitar but I do also like myself some project here and there which is where my interest in typewriters fits in. I have always collected things through my life but I did not expect typewriters to be my next big passion in collecting. I started collecting typewriters in the beginning of 2022 and so far I have 80* of them (3 of which is currently disassembled) . I find it really enjoyable to pickup a typewriter at a thrift store/second hand and starting to clean it up and get it to a working condition to the best of my ability and knowledge. (Excuse all the dog hairs in my pictures, I do actually try to remove the hair before taking the pictures. xD) Cheers!

RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Sense C-105 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Sense Serial Number page and the Sense C-105 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
