Description:
This is a Smith-Corona 2200, not to be confused with my earlier posting here of a Smith-Corona Coronamatic 2200---this 2200 has a paper injector, very unusual on portables. One of the gallery pics shows the gear teeth cut into the platen shaft to accommodate the injector.
Although this looks like a plastic-bodied typewriter, the body is actually cast aluminum. It does say Coronamatic 2200 on the back but not on the front like the other one. The Date Code is GV 43331.
This one was spattered with Wite-Out, which is ironic considering that a major feature of the Coronamatic system is the ability to switch in a correcting ribbon in about one second, way faster and better-looking than Liquid Paper, especially if youâre being careful.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Smith Corona Coronamatic 2200 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Smith Corona Serial Number page and the Smith Corona Coronamatic 2200 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
