198X Olympia Traveller de Luxe Serial # 0142335 198X Olympia Traveller de Luxe typewriter, Serial # 0142335 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 198X Olympia Traveller de Luxe typewriter. 2015-12-11 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 198X Olympia Traveller de Luxe Serial # 0142335 Now this is a great example of a later mechanical typewriter which can hold its ground against the old legends of past times.

The Olympia brand has always been a synonym of great quality, or at least quality (models like the Alphamatic 33 are somewhat weaker but still good), but this little portable is surprisingly nice. Few times you can get such a heap of quality from such a chunk of plastic.

This is a model IĀ“ve been looking for, and when I finally found one at a reasonable price it turned out to be in far better condition than the previous overpriced ones. ItĀ“s a fairly common one, but people tend to put ludicrous price tags on it because of the striking design. It is truly outstanding. And as for the typing quality, it pretty much goes with the visuals. ItĀ“s better than you could expect in every sense: stability, reliability, speed, comfort... A good typewriter to carry around.

The bad part? ItĀ“s dirty. Somehow, the dirt has deeply entrenched into the plastic, and I find no way of cleaning it. This machine in its original light cream colour would look great, but now itĀ“s a bit like a yoghourt dropped on the floor.

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
