198X Olympia Monica electric de Luxe Serial # 297075 198X Olympia Monica electric de Luxe typewriter, Serial # 297075 Javier Vazquez del Olmo's 198X Olympia Monica electric de Luxe typewriter. 2017-12-18 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Javier Vazquez del Olmo: 198X Olympia Monica electric de Luxe Serial # 297075 Straight from the workbench, here comes this Olympia Monica Electric de Luxe.

Got it really cheap, but it was thrashed during shipping. As soon as I turned it on it started CRRRREEAAAAKKKing because the carriage was jammed. Then several pieces fell off, and then I followed the usual procedure: cursing out loudly, contacting the seller and getting a shameless response by him. Oh, and he forgot to mention that several typebars were bent. Surely IĀ“d notice without having to tell me beforehand, right?

Then this poor machine was stored away for several months until IĀ“ve finally decided to dismantle it. This thing has required drastic surgery, because IĀ“ve had to remove all the tab stops to make the carriage run again. As for the bent typebars... IĀ“ve done what IĀ“ve been able to, at least the only hopeless typebars are those of symbols seldom used. All in all the machine works. Wounded but alive.

Bonus feature: I think this is the only typewriter I have with the square root symbol!

The first typewriter I saw was my grandpa´s Olivetti Linea 98 at the office. It was just a curio for me. Then I was given a Nakajima, which I didn´t use and my grandfather took it from me because it was easier to handle than the bulky Linea 98. Now I own that typewriter, and I started a little collection in Valladolid, Spain. The Nakajima, which is "my" typewriter only returned home in 2017, almost 20 years later, when he wanted a better typewriter.

A collection that started small grew into something bigger, a nuisace for my family and a great source of satisfaction for me.
