Description:
Asked at a yard sale.
There are many nice details in this design. Note in the gallery below how the power cord is designed to drape to either the right or the left, even though the connector is indexed, (It is not polarized, though.)
There is a KYBRD REL (keyboard release) key, just like the Praxis 48 has. In order to prevent tangled typebars when two or more keys are struck at the same time, these keyboards lock up; this key frees the keyboard from that condition. Just a tiny bit neater than the typebar de-tanglers that some other typewriters have.
And the distinctive ‘70s typeface on the round keytops.... Ah, Olivetti!

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti Lettera 36 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti Lettera 36 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
