Description:
This is a nice electric machine, it has quite a low profile and writes nicely, it does makes some noise, especially the belt and pulleys.
The striking force comes from a spring that gets loaded and released by the electric mechanism, thus the impression force is set by preloading said spring, while other machines change the speed of the electric part.
The correcting mechanism is quite neat, a single key sends the marriage one stop back, sets the next strike to be on the cover-up ribbon and disables the escapement, you then type the character that you want to erase and right after the new one (that will be printed with the normal color). This means that correcting a single letter mistake is very fast.
On my machine, the margin release allows only one more character, but it could be a malfunction.
I saw a "73" date on one of the castings, but the instruction manual is from 1980, so the machine must be from the 80s.

When I was a child, I used to write with my grandfather's Olympia Portable, and I would feel as if any fantasy would come true if written by such a powerful instrument; remarkably, being the early 2000s, I had never seen anyone use a typewriter seriously at that point, but the object would still strike me for its apparent unlimited potential.
To this day, I like using my typewriters (that are a few) from time to time, and to feel the satisfaction of a precise and powerful machine at my fingertips; sadly, I can't write as much as I would like, but when I use a typewriter I just enjoy it more.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Olivetti Lettera 36 C on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Olivetti Serial Number page and the Olivetti Lettera 36 C By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
