Description:
A toy typewriter despite the name, this is an all-plastic machine except for the springs, some screws, and some linkage rods. Even the type slugs are plastic. This example is missing the ribbon wind mechanism on one side and so is basically inoperable, although the keys do move. I’m guessing at the date.
There is no type sample because I could not get a paper to roll around the platen. This piece of junk is an embarrassment to the people who wasted resources in producing it. Even as a toy, it is frustrating.

While I find all of mankind's inventions interesting, I am most enchanted by the human-scale arts and devices, the ones that can be created (and repaired) in a home workshop or studio; the ones that can be understood by looking at them; the ones that do something useful or stir admiration. Typewriters work for me.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Mehano Collegiate 1000 on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Mehano Serial Number page and the Mehano Collegiate 1000 By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
