As its bigger brother it types taking its energy from mains or by four D batteries.
The reason to buy this model, considering the Typestar 5 is a little advanced than the Typestar 2?: Weird but simple enough. The inking method is provided by a cassette very hard to find nowadays. And this one was cheaper than the market price of just ONE Canon cassette, and cames with its own cassette in place, PLUS other two unused original Canon cassettes!!!!.
A spare parts bargain, isn't it? :-))
