Description:
I found this as a very lucky, and a great help because we learning Russian.
Ending my vacations in Argentina, hours before to take the bus back to home, my girlfriend tried to find a "Russian keyboard" on Marketplace. And found a very interesting item for us. Only announced as "Russian Typewriter", in somewere of southern "Greater Buenos Aires" without the ribbon cover, no ribbon and seems to be dirty and possibily more pieces missing. That not stop me, my mind said "now or never!"
We decided to spent these last hours in the adventure to take her, a "Kongo" urban tour by metro, train and bus. A travel not recommended for foreigners, except if know where to go. The price was a really gift, less than 20 BRL and the seller said which was working, but was very sticky at all. I don't know how it got there, everything said i was sold originally in the USSR and then taken by someone, probably a Russian translator.
Not in good condition -dirty and mold- that's because had to travel out of the luggage in a sealed bag. Back in home, after removed the mold and old grease with lots of alcohol and a strong clean she did not have any vital part missing, only needed lubrication and minor adjustments. And a complete ribbon set.
It's amazing to use and i was surpressed by the build quality, stronger like a German but with the portability of a Chinese. This model was encommended for Olympia and their quality standards are known. Has a Pica 10 cpi, too greater we compared with Latin alphabet, but i don't know the Cyrillic standards.
Unfortunately, no way to get the original ribbon cap in this continent. I will try to get an alternative replace, could be from another Olympia Traveller or of some Brazilian clone by Hermes-Olivetti.

A tipically 80's Cold-War boy. Brazilian born in exile, with the time i was interested with my homeland, GDR and the Eastern Bloc technologies, but didn't have old enough to live this. I grown up with computers and never had more than marginal contact with typewriters in my childhood, my passion was growing along with mine Ostalgie and started my collection sometime ago when withdrew my father's older Erika from its long letargy.
Since 2023 i'm a Right student, in path to be a lawyer and that re-inforces my passion with typeriters. I prefer the 80's portable models.
I will try to get information about the world of Brazilian typewriters, mostly not known outside South America.
