Description:
Picked this big guy up in a thrift store today for 20 bucks. Replaced the spring on the clutch, and the carriage return came back to life. Everything now works...just waiting on a hard-to-find ribbon cartridge, and I'll upload a typeface specimen. It's supposed to be 12 pitch Prestige Elite 96. Mechanically functional...but it sure does need a cleaning! And the serial number is kind of weird too, for it's not matching up with the database.

I fell down the analog hobby rabbithole and have no intention of climbing out. As a child, I wrote my school research papers on the 1946 Smith-Corona Silent that my father used to get through law school. By the time I went to law school, new-fangled computers were all the rage. But I kept my dad's Smith-Corona. In the decades since, I've found a few other typewriters and use them to write fiction for fun and pose them with the film cameras to which I am hopelessly addicted.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Correcting Selectric III on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Correcting Selectric III By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
