The IBM Typewriter Diskette Module is a desk-top unit which attaches to, and provides removable diskette storage for, the IBM Electronic Typewriters 85 and 95. The Diskette Module uses 5.25" diskettes and reads and writes in a single format on one side of a diskette at a time. Approximately 60,000 characters can be stored on a diskette side.

The IBM Typewriter Diskette Module enhances the IBM 85 and IBM 95 so that it can meet the following requirements:

- Long-term storage
- Storage of long documents
- Workload distribution
- Document confidentiality
- Forms applications
- Multiple principal support

An initial program load (IPL) diskette is included with each Diskette Module to load the microcode that provides the Diskette Module its function. All existing functions remain the same for the IBM Electronic Typewriters 85 and 95. Additional functions provided by the Diskette Module include resident diagnostics and automatic recording of a diskette index.

An IBM Typewriter Modularity Option must be installed on the IBM Electronic Typewriters 85 and 95 for attachment of the Diskette Module. One Modularity Option can accomodate both the IBM Typewriter Diskette Module and the IBM Typewriter Communication Module. The Modularity Option can be installed in the plant or in a customer's office by a Customer Service Representative. When ordering this feature installed in the plant, the IBM 85/95 becomes a Custom machine.
