Description:
Is this model 3800 a JP-8 or a 12. Does a 12 have to have the cassette ribbon system? This is very much an 8 under the hood, but it has power backspace. The keyboard layout is like the Correct-O-Riter II with cassette.
Brother comes out with the cassette in late 78. They call this the Correct-O-Riter I. Ca 1982, they offered this with the traditional ribbon and went back and forth between calling it a II, I or blank as this one is.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to any one area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the Brother Correct-O-Riter on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the Brother Serial Number page and the Brother Correct-O-Riter By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
