Although I have learned touch typing on typewriters at school in the late 1980s, as we had only enough computers for half of the class, I didn't own one until I inherited (or better, my wife inherited) an Erika 120 in 2013. This started my interest in these machines and led to a small collection of mechanical and electric typewriters. My main ambition is to have typewriters which are enjoyable to use. Therefore I am focussing on machines which represent the pinnacle of typewriter manufacturing, which, in my opinion, lies between the late 1950s and the early 1970s for mechanical typewriters and between the early 1970s and early 1980s for electric typewriters. Today my main use of my typewriters is writing typecasts for my blog and occasional personal correspondence.
RESEARCH NOTE: When researching the IBM Correcting Selectric III on a computer with lots of screen real estate, you may find that launching the IBM Serial Number page and the IBM Correcting Selectric III By Model/Year/Serial page in new browser windows can give you interesting perspectives on changes throughout the model series.
