Description:
Sears made a lot of ugly typewriters. So it is fitting they close out the end of the typebar era with what is possibly the ugliest of the bunch. It has a bit of a tan, but it is not worth a UV treatment.
The typical goo belt and a heavy dose of the dust. The margin release/line lock was all out of whack, but a look at an Olympia (Nak) revealed the problem. I think it runs a little slow, so maybe the motor is a bit compromised from being locked up by the goo.
While they may have been ugly, you can do a quick anecdotal 'study' and see they sold a ton of these utility machines starting with the first pre-correction Scholar in 76 up to the Communicator ca 1984. So many survive and imagine how many were tossed in the dumpster.

Typewriters are the perfect blend of using one's technical skills, history and functional purpose. My goal is type tested machines. My interests are not isolated to anyone area. For example, I am a big fan of Smith Corona electrics, mid century electrics and all things Royal.
