197X Underwood (Antares) 16 Serial # N/A 197X Underwood (Antares) 16 typewriter, Serial # N/A Elisa Makoon-Singh's 197X Underwood (Antares) 16 typewriter. 2025-09-26 From the Virtual Typewriter Collection of Elisa Makoon-Singh: 197X Underwood (Antares) 16 Serial # N/A Serial number not found. It might have been on the faded peeling sticker on the bottom of the typewriter.

I found this little gem in Cádiz, Spain.

Edit: I updated this gallery. Originally, I listed it as an Antares Compact 16, but upon further inspection, it looks like the faded sticker on the bottom of the machine once said "Underwood Italiana S.p.A." There was no option for Underwood Italiana in the database so I went with Underwood(Antares). The badge was missing so I was not sure how to identify this model but I think I am a bit closer now. I am not sure if this is from the 1970s or 1960s.

I don't know much about it, but I am told this is not a widely distributed model, I first logged it in as the first Antares Compact 16, but then it looks like the sticker said Underwood.

It has features that remind me of Olivetti (the swoop in the right carriage release button) and also Underwood (the basket-mounted ribbon color selector switch looks like the one on my Underwood 18).

I love to write and found that writing on a typewriter is the most enjoyable and distraction-free way of doing it. I started with an Alphasmart, then moved to a Royalite, then to an Olympia SM5. The Olympia kept me fully satisfied for a good seven years until I got the bit by the collecting bug. Now I am slowly amassing my own personal typewriter museum. Typewriters are like personal printing presses. My partner is an engineer who can fix and clean any typewriter, so we make a great team.
